• Destilado de Agave produced in Tetitlán de la Lima, Guerrero • Maestra Mezcalera Erika Meneses • Produced from 100% Papalote (A. cupreata) harvested with 2 years capón • Cooked 4 days in an earthen pit oven with Encino amarillo • Fermented 6 days in white pine (ayacahuite) tanks using spring water • Distilled twice using traditional copper pot stills • Rested 1 year and 1 month in glass before bottling • Wet stone/petrichor, saline, bright green herbs (cilantro/menthol/chlorophyll), old Meyer lemon, mace, chalk dust, pineapple skin, papaya, and of course, lemongrass • 80 liters produced (March 2022) • 51.4% ABV A story of romance and tragedy as moving as any star-crossed lovers, Erika’s lemongrass mezcal is a passionate tribute to her deceased husband. The two shared romantic evenings in Mexico City during mezcal festivals and became particularly enamored with a special batch of mezcal from Puebla distilled with lemongrass and ginger; the couple was also working with the maestros who later formed Aguerrido, learning to distill mezcal from their experienced lessons. When her husband passed away prematurely, Erika began to produce this lemongrass mezcal in honor of their courtship. Potent on its own and truly exquisite to pair with, this limited release is easily the most compelling example of this particular type of mezcal con sabor.
