Courvoisier XO draws on very old eaux-de-vie from three crus: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne and the Borderies. The Borderies gives it a floral, slightly nutty side that sets it apart from other XOs.

It's bright topaz in the glass, with rich caramel and toffee on the nose. The palate is softer and sweeter than you'd expect, with vanilla, mocha and hazelnut, then a rounded brown-sugar finish with clove and orange peel. Easy to like, even for people who think they don't drink cognac.

Serve it neat in a tulip glass at room temperature, or over one big ice cube. It's a natural with dessert: crème brûlée, pecan pie or dark chocolate. A good XO for the price, and a safe gift.

Excellent, smooth cognac for an after dinner treat or some late night sipping with a good book!

I must add that Wine Chateau customer service has improved 100% since I first started ordering from here a few years ago. Transactions are now completed with ease, any questions are answered promptly, and shipping is much faster. I'm glad I didn't give up on them!
