Bordeaux, located in the west of France, along with Burgundy is usually considered to produce the world's foremost red quality wines and is one of the world's most famous wine districts, characterized by its thousands of châteaun. The region's wine history dates back to 48 AD. when the Romans began to plant vineyards along the river Gironde which provides perfect conditions for viticulture. The wines are often made from a mixture of grapes and are known to be very storable. Among the blue grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot dominate, and among the white Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle.
