DESCRIPTION
Château Croix Cardinale is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru on Bordeaux's Right Bank, where Merlot does most of the work. 2018 was a warm, ripe year, and this wine shows it.
Ripe plum, boysenberry, vanilla and a lot of dark chocolate on the nose. The palate is generous and creamy, full of sweet black and dark berries, but there's enough acidity and tannin to keep it from tipping into jam. It's been drinking well from early on and is in a good place now.
Open it half an hour before dinner and serve it slightly cool, around 60-64F, in a big Bordeaux glass. It's made for roast lamb, a ribeye, duck or mushroom risotto. At this price it's an easy way to put a Grand Cru on the table without waiting ten years.
