Château Côte de Baleau is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru estate on Bordeaux's Right Bank. Saint-Émilion reds are built mostly on Merlot, usually with some Cabernet Franc, which makes them softer and rounder than the Left Bank.
Expect the Saint-Émilion style: plum, black cherry and red fruit, with hints of spice, earth and cedar, and supple tannins. 2019 was a strong vintage across Bordeaux, giving ripe fruit with good freshness.
Serve it around 62F, and open it an hour ahead if you can. It's very good with roast duck, lamb, beef and mushroom dishes. A sensible way to drink classified-area Bordeaux without paying the famous-name prices. It also keeps well for several more years if you want to lay it down.
