DESCRIPTION
Baron de Brane is the second wine of Chateau Brane-Cantenac, a Second Growth in Margaux classified in 1855. It is named for Baron Hector de Brane, the 19th-century owner who made the estate's name. The wine comes from younger vines and selected parcels of the estate.
In 2020 the blend is 58% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. With Merlot in the lead it is rounder and softer than the Grand Vin, with dark fruit, a floral Margaux lift and fine tannins. 2020 was a strong Bordeaux vintage, and this is an affordable way to drink it.
It is drinking well now. Give it 30-60 minutes in a decanter and serve at 62-64F in a Bordeaux glass. Pair it with roast beef, duck breast, lamb or a mushroom dish.
