This listing is sold by the case: six 375ml bottles. Caravaglio farms on the island of Salina, one of the Aeolian Islands off the north coast of Sicily, home of Malvasia delle Lipari.
Passito means the grapes are dried before pressing, which concentrates the sugar and flavor. Expect apricot, honey, candied orange peel and dried figs, with a floral, aromatic lift and enough acidity to keep it fresh. It's sweet, but not cloying.
Serve it lightly chilled, around 50F, in a small white wine glass. It's lovely with almond biscotti, fruit tarts, blue cheese or on its own after dinner. Half bottles by the case are handy for gifts.
