One of the four first growths named in the 1855 classification, on the gravel of northern Pauillac. Lafite is Cabernet Sauvignon led with Merlot, and is the most restrained of the first growths: graphite and cedar, spring flowers and crushed rock over blackcurrant, medium bodied, built on elegance and length rather than power. The 2008 is a classically structured vintage and rewards keeping.
