Great approachable single malt

This was touted as one of the best whiskeys for beginners. I shared this with a few friends who rarely drink hard liquor, and even though it was strong for them, there was an immediately recognized depth of taste after the initial burn that they asked for more. Great even for an experienced scotch drinker.

Bought on a Whim

I am a man who enjoys his whisky. Indeed, I love just about all kinds, all brands, and all lines, except the ones that I find bland and forgettable, and if I am unfamiliar with a brand, especially one from a favourite region like Islay, I have to try it. This was not bland and forgettable. I received the bottle in the afternoon, and no sooner had I opened the box, I was pulling off the stopper and pouring a glass. It did not have the strong peat flavour I adore, but it gave the impression of a nice, light, summer tipple, much less hearty than my preferred single malts. I even put some in my silver flask, which gave it a little extra smoke.
All in all, this one at least warrants a place on my beginner scotch list for my uninitiated friends.

Not real "petey" like the typical Islay Scotch, but you pick up the more subtle hints of the flavors. A real gem for the price.
