Beringer has been making wine in St. Helena since 1876, and the Private Reserve label is where the winery puts its best Napa fruit. This is the Chardonnay from that tier, from the 2022 vintage.
It's made in the full, classic Napa style, and it doesn't pretend otherwise. Expect ripe yellow apple, pear and lemon curd, with vanilla, toast and a creamy, round texture from oak. There's enough freshness underneath to keep it from feeling heavy.
Serve it lightly chilled, around 50-55F, in a wide white wine glass so the aromas open up. Good with roast chicken, lobster with butter, crab cakes or pasta in a cream sauce. A sure pick for anyone who likes their Chardonnay rich.
