Domaine Georges Noëllat is a family estate in Vosne-Romanée, and this Pinot Noir comes from Les Tuvilains, a Premier Cru in the southern section of Beaune. The parcel is small, 0.66 hectares of brown clay on limestone, planted in 1983.
It's made carefully and simply: de-stemmed, fermented with indigenous yeast and aged 18 months in barrel, a third of it new. Expect red cherry and raspberry, a touch of spice and earth, and a medium body with fine tannins.
Serve it slightly cool, around 58-60F, in a wide Burgundy glass. Roast chicken, duck, veal and mushroom dishes all work. A good Premier Cru for someone who wants real Burgundy character at a reasonable price.
