DESCRIPTION
Chateau Beau-Site is a Saint-Estephe estate owned by the Borie-Manoux family firm. Its name means beautiful site: it sits next to Chateau Calon-Segur on one of the highest points of the Medoc, overlooking the Gironde estuary, and its 18th-century underground cellar is one of the oldest in the Medoc.
The 2019 is 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc from deep gravel. It is fermented in temperature-controlled steel vats for three to four weeks, then aged 12 to 14 months in French oak, 40-50% of it new. The estate describes blackberry, blackcurrant and licorice with soft, dense tannins and good length. It is a classic, firm Saint-Estephe from a strong vintage at a fair price.
Decant for an hour and serve at 62-65F in a Bordeaux glass. Pour it with roast beef, lamb, game birds or a mature cheddar. It will keep well for another decade.
