  • Fortified wine made by adding to the Barolo a natural extract made by a 60-day infusion of China calissaga, vanilla, cinnamon, juniper and rhubarb
  • After resting for approximately 3 months with their best Barolo, the mature Barolo Chinato is bottled
  • It is recommended that the elixir spends another 6 months in the bottle
  • Alcohol: 17-17.5 % Vol In the backrooms of late eighteenth century apothecaries, chemists of the time created an elixer, a sort of tonic with medicinal properties. Serio and Battista Borgogno's Barolo Chinato was inspired by these recipes, with the help of historical information passed down through generations of Borgognos. In 2016, after a long search of the family archives and with the help of a family friend, the cantina was able to reconstruct the original recipe of Serio Borgogno!

Because the two bottles of Barolo Chinato were securely packed, they arrived intact. The taste of the Borgogno brand was not quite as good as another brand I had tasted, but it was certainly satisfactory. I will probably order more in the future.
