Ardbeg is one of the great peated distilleries on Islay, on Scotland's west coast, known for some of the smokiest whiskies around. The 19 Year Old is an older, limited release beside the regular Ten.
Expect Ardbeg's signature peat smoke, tar and sea salt, softened by the extra years in oak into something deeper and more rounded. Older Ardbeg tends to bring out sweeter notes of citrus, toffee and spice under the smoke.
Pour it neat, and try a few drops of water to open it up. It's very good with smoked salmon, oysters or dark chocolate, or simply after dinner. A special bottle for a peat lover who already knows the Ten and wants to see what more age does.
