Asava was a first for Indian whisky: a Rampur single malt matured in American bourbon casks and then finished in casks that held Indian Cabernet Sauvignon.

The wine casks show. You get Rampur's tropical fruit, plus apricot, blackberry and plum, a hint of tobacco and spice. The palate is velvety, with a honey sweetness, spicy oak and vanilla, balanced by a little dryness from the red wine. Medium finish.

Pour it neat or with a drop of water. It's very good with dark chocolate, a cheese plate or a spicy dish. A great conversation bottle for a whisky lover who thinks they've tried everything, and good value for a cask-finished single malt.
