ZD Wines Chardonnay Reserve 2016 |
The 2016 growing season in Carneros was marked by another early start and near perfect growing conditions for Chardonnay. While the season began warm and dry, the weather throughout most of July and early August was moderate and allowed for ideal ripening.
This Reserve Chardonnay was made exclusively from ZD’s organically certified Carneros Estate Vineyard, including Block 1. This vineyard block is planted to the Wood clone known for its unique, muscat-inspired aromatics. Consistent with our winemaking style, the grapes were hand harvested at night and fermented in 100% American Oak barrels in ZD’s temperature-controlled cellar. This cold barrel fermentation inhibits secondary malolactic fermentation, preserving the vibrant flavors and natural acidity in our wines. Six to eight weeks of extended lees contact provided a nice balance of ripe, forward fruit and richness. Aged 15 months in barrel added further complexity and depth.
Bright aromas of pear, orange blossom, and lime mingle with subtle floral notes, sweet vanilla, and clove. The palate is rich and fruit driven, with wonderful balance and longevity. Only 32 barrels were produced. Enjoy!
Aromas of pineapple, lime zest, and pear mingle with hints of vanilla and orange blossoms. The palate is rich and full bodied with the exceptional balance between fruit, toasty oak, and lively acidity. The finish is amazingly long and lasting.
