Stags' Leap Winery Petite Sirah 2015 |
James Suckling 93 points - A juicy and rich red with blackberry, blueberry and mint. Full body, chewy tannins and a fresh finish. A vivid petite sirah. Drink now..December/2017
Jeb Dunnuck 90 points - A blend of 76% Petite Sirah, 12% Syrah and the rest Grenache and other Rhone varieties, the 2015 Petite Sirah comes all from estate fruit from numerous appellations in the valley. Aged in 25% new American oak, this inky colored effort gives up loads of blue fruits, chocolate, vanilla oak, and spice to go with a ripe, full-bodied, concentrated, chewy style on the palate. This big, rustic, power-packed Petite Sirah is perfect steakhouse red and it should keep for 10-15 years..December/2017
A winery often confused with the Stags Leap Wine Cellars, but owned by the giant Treasuries Wines consortium, they are doing some creative work and making extremely interesting wines. - Robert M. Parker, Jr., 228, The Wine Advocate, 30th Dec 2016
Out of a 1920s era field blend block has risen a legacy of richly aromatic Petite Syrahs, voluptuous in the mouth, central to Stags’ Leaps’ commitment to Rhône varietals. In a way, the heritage vines have been the winery’s coach in learning how Petite Syrah likes to be made into wine. "Petite Syrah craves the company of other Rhône varietals,” says winemaker Kevin Morrisey. "She blossoms in their presence. The flavors, structure, and elegance express themselves with greater intensity and purity from the soft touch of cross-blending.” The winery’s long association with prime Petite Syrah growers in the Napa Valley has resulted in an optimum choice of fruit every season.

Exceeded my expectations!
I have always been a fan of Stags Leap wines, but the Petite Sirah exceeded my expectations as it was very smooth at the finish and had bold as well as lingering subtle flavors. Overall a great wine that was well enjoyed.
