Marchesi Mazzei Zisola Doppiozeta 2013 |
The Zoppi Doppiozeta of the Marquis Mazzei is an excellence of Sicilian wine and food. Considered one of the best red wines of the region, it comes from the vineyards that are located around Zisola , a hamlet of the municipality of Syracuse in Noto. The wine conditions in this part of Sicily are perfect, thanks to the mild climate and the soil rich in minerals. The wine takes the name Doppiozeta in reference to the surname of the family that produces it, ie the Mazzei. This Noto Rosso DOC comes from the combination of some of the most popular vines in Sicily: Nero d'Avola at 65% , Syrah at 25% and Cabernet Franc at 10%. At the end of August, the grape harvest takes place along the small trees where the grapes grow. During this process only the best bunches are selected, which will make up the wine. The grapes undergo a gentle destemming and the must is left to macerate for 14 to 16 days in large tanks, at a temperature between 23 ° and 25 ° C. When the alcoholic fermentation is completed, the wine is transferred to the barriques , French oak barrels, for aging. The aging of the Rosso Zisola Doppiozeta lasts for 16 months, during which the label develops its organoleptic properties. The wine is finally bottled and sold after a further 6 months of aging under glass.
Mazzei Zisola Doppiozeta is a red wine with a beautiful body. Deep ruby red in color, it has an overwhelming olfactory bouquet, with strong fruity and spicy notes. On the palate it is very full-bodied, soft and elegant. Ideal to serve with red meats and roasts, it is perfect in combination with stews rich in aromas and spices. Excellent also with aged cheeses.
