IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS
J. Hofstatter Pinot Nero Meczan 2016
Red cherries and raspberries. Acid seemed on the high side, which I don't mind. Some earthy greenness there as well. Medium finish. Nice, This grappa is a punch in the face! But an elegant one.
It has a lovely medium red color but little nose. There is enough structure at mid palate to
have adequate mouth feel, but it isn't very flavorful nor does it evoke typical PN flavors. It has a slight finish. This is supposed to be a premier producer from Sued Tirol. It just wasn't all that good.
Fresh and bright with plum, cherry, and strawberry notes - with hints of violet, vanilla, and forest floor. Smooth and balanced, with a nice mineral finish.
