Domaine Vaccelli Ajaccio Rouge 'Unu' 2016

Domaine Vaccelli is a recent discovery for us at MWC and one we are very happy to have made.  The estate was founded in Ajaccio in 1962 by the Courreges family and has long focused on the native grapes of the region Sciaccarellu and Vermentinu.  Unu is their entry level red that brilliantly captures Sciaccarellu's hallmark floral aroma on a sun-drenched frame sporting garrigue and touch of smoke on a lush frame.

The palate is lush and dense though reined in by crisp acidity.  the 2016 practically begs for wild boar dishes but would be great with lamb, a burger, or well seared Mushrooms. Fermented in steel with native yeast and aged in a mix of steel, barrels, and concrete eggs.
