We created this wine by harvesting fruit from five vineyards in the Russian River Valley,Sonoma Coast and Alexander Valley regions. We use traditional open-top tanks, and whole-berry fermentations combining “punched cap ” and gravity--fed “rack and return ” techniques to gently extract flavor from the grapes. We developed this unique regime to preserve delicate fruit and give a soft, supple feel in our finished wines. For this vintage,we limited barrel aging to twelve months in order to accentuate ripe cherry aromas and flavors with toasted oak and spice beneath. In the mouth the wine is firm yet velvety, with lingering flavors. While drinking nicely now,it should evolve gracefully for up to five years.
Red garnet color. Aromas of dark cherry, pomegranate, strawberry, dried rose petal, spicy with hints of black pepper and nutmeg. On the palate, dark cherry, blood orange, raspberry, dark mulberry and plum. Toasted walnut, crushed peppercorn and cardamom. A full-bodied cold-climate Pinot Noir with firm round tannins.
The David Bruce Winery is nestled amid redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains south of San Francisco; they source fruit from Sonoma County for this bottling. Twice as large as Napa, Sonoma makes half the amount of wine but her size encompasses great diversity in the sub-districts that are climatically wildly varied.
Cheerful, delish Pinot Noir, balanced and well-knit. Nothing flashy here, but true cherry-raspberry Pinot fruit sings through, with a kiss of oak on a medium-bodied frame.
