COS Cerasuolo di Vittoria delle Fontane 2017 |
Sicily has 23 DOCs but just one DOCG, Cerasuolo di Vittoria, and the three friends who founded COS were the first to bottle a DOCG in Sicilian history. This rare bird is a delicious but serious blend of Nero d'Avola and Frappato, coming vineyard sites in Fontane at the very south-eastern tip of the island, not far from Malta and Africa.
Initial fermentation is in concrete before being moved to large botti for extra ageing. And it's a wine you can age too as it comes with a good dose of subtle dry tannin, matched by spicy red fruits and a hint of smoke and tobacco. A smoothly intense and complex Sicilian red made by one of the island's most fascinating producers.
