Vinous 96 points - The 2015 Porseleinberg Syrah contains whole-bunch fruit matured in 90% foudres and 10% concrete eggs. It has a very well defined bouquet of brambly black fruit and white pepper, and an engaging sense of coolness pervades these aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and almost Northern Rhone in style, offering ample freshness yet at the same time a brooding intensity. There is quality and refinement here from start to finish. A superb Syrah from winemaker Callie Louw. but one I feel needs two or three years in bottle. Want serious, world class South African wine? Get in line here..August/2018
Wine Advocate 91 points - The 2015 Syrah begins with with a black core of fruit with a grippy and rigid minerality on the nose. The palate is bone-dry with a taught mineral-driven expression that moves to a grippy tannic nature that lingers long on the finish with black spice and plum skin, and black tea. The body is full and brooding confirming the tannins are built for years to come. In youth, this acts like a young Barolo, as it can be unforgiving upon release. I am very interested to see these wines again in the year 2030. Only 800 cases were produced..October/2019
Jeb Dunnuck 95 points - The flagship cuvee from winemaker Marc Kent, the brilliant 2015 Syrah Porseleinberg is 100% Syrah brought up in foudre and demi-muids. Deep ruby/purple-colored with a Cornas-like style in its black cherry, currants, scorched earth, and huge mineral-laced bouquet, it’s medium-bodied, fresh, focused, and chiseled on the palate, with plenty of tannin and acidity. It’s going to benefit from 2-4 years of cellaring and keep for a decade or more after that..March/2018
