IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

Wine Advocate 97 points - Blended of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and 3 % Merlot, all coming mainly from the Rutherford AVA, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of baked black berries, dried mulberries and preserved plums with hints of allspice, cardamom, lavender and cigar box. Full-bodied, rich and expressive even today, it has a firm, chewy backbone and bags of freshness, promising a long life and much more to come with careful cellaring. 6,600 cases were made..Lisa Perrotti-Brown, October/2017

James Suckling 96 points - TOP 100 NAPA AND SONOMA WINES OF 2017 #85 - Extremely complex aromas of currant, coffee, spearmint, Thai basil and sandalwood. Full body, firm and chewy tannins yet linear and exciting. Just a baby. Fantastic structure here. Better in 2020..January/2018

Jeb Dunnuck 92 points - A much more complete wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges De Latour Private Reserve checks in as a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and the balance Merlot that was fermented and aged in 88% new French oak. It offers a terrific perfume of black currants, blueberries, spicy oak and leafy herbs. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced and lightly textured, with fine, elegant tannin, it’s not a blockbuster, yet shines for its elegance and purity. It should drink nicely for 20+ years..December/2017

When Andre Techelistcheff joined Beaulieu Vineyard in 1938, he tasted the de Latour family’s private wine - what they called “Private Reserve” - from the 1936 vintage. This Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine was so distinctive that Tchelistcheff insisted it be bottled and sold as the winery’s flagship offering. In 1940, Beaulieu Vineyard released the first vintage of Private Reserve and named it in our founder’s honor. The resulting wine became the first release of Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that was destined to become Napa Valley’s first “cult” Cabernet. In 70+ years since, Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has become the benchmark of Napa Valley Cabernet as one of the most collected American wines.

We hand selected grapes from the finest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in our BV Ranches No. 1 and No. 2, originally planted by Georges de Latour in the early 1900s. We focus on clones that yield small berries with the high skin-to-juice ratio needed to make intense, long-lived wines. These chosen vines are deeply rooted in the well-draining alluvial fan soils of the Rutherford American Viticultural Area, considered one of the finest regions of Napa Valley for Cabernet Sauvignon.

At our state-of-the-art winery, dedicated exclusively to Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, we hand sorted the destemmed berries to retain only the highest quality fruit. Winemaker Jeffrey Stambor then fermented one-third of the grapes in new French oak barrels for early integration of fruit and oak character and to enhance the dense, rich texture; the balance was fermented in stainless steel and oak tanks. Following judicious extended skin contact and inbarrel malolactic fermentation, the wine was pressed and returned to barrels for aging. Jeffrey blended the Cabernet Sauvignon with a small amount of Petit Verdot to further enhance the wine’s aroma and flavor spectrum.

Favorites at great prices

My wife and I have had an appreciation for BV Private Reserves since the 1970s and look for them when we run low. Wine Chateau seems to stock them and at great prices. Delivery is fast and secure. I’ll keep coming back to Wine Chateau!
